This New Horror Film Is Now Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Partnership.

Consider this a challenge for those in enduring partnerships who are fans of scary movies: Get comfortable with your significant other and stream Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its launch on a streaming platform via Hulu. Outwardly, it may seem like standard biological terror, but beneath Together resides a deep contemplation about our choices in loving our partners.

An Introductory Film Investigating The Nuances of Love

Together marks the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have been together for over ten years. Having wed in reality in 2017, Franco and Brie contribute a particular energy to their characters, expertly portraying both the strengths and weaknesses of a long-term relationship.

The plot begins when the couple move from the metropolis to the country for her career. A familiar plot device, admittedly, but that’s mostly where the cliches conclude. Together evolves into as much a psychological exploration of the couple's dynamic as it is a body horror flick.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While hiking near their country house, a violent storm occurs, and the protagonists tumble into an underground cave. After spending the night there and eventually escaping, a supernatural entity takes hold of the pair. This force induces a otherworldly bond between them that goes well past typical partnership.

The whole movie is a slow burn fright fest, blending moments of fever-dream horrors, disturbing (but not excessively graphic) physical transformations, and genuinely funny interactions (sometimes during something horrific). Shanks weaves these elements together seamlessly and presents them in a gradually swelling aura of dread.

Layered Performances

A large part of Together is exclusively the performances of its stars, and they skillfully illustrate numerous complexities to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie’s confidence and feeling of intimacy is waning due to a distance. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his unwillingness to chase only his floundering music career inexorably rises.

Tim, on the other hand feels trapped and isolated by Millie, who’s the reason they’ve left the city and far away from his social circle. He is terrified of the notion of totally forfeiting his personal autonomy in Millie. This fear is intensified by the circumstance he lacks a driver's license and needs Millie for transportation.

The film's most intelligent aspect in Together avoids making either of his characters the clear bad guy.

Both characters face the sort of issues that are inherent in long-term unions after ten years. Fundamentally, they still love each other. They share moments of joy, offer support, and share intimately at times. But beneath it all, there’s an inescapable feeling of questioning about their future together.

Thematic Depth

While the supernatural forces in Together symbolize these concerns of unhealthy attachment and giving oneself over to another person, the allegory avoids being overly obvious or pretentious. Instead, these visceral horror elements provide a brilliant analogue to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the horror and the drama enhance each other in harmony.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s conclusion, which won’t be spoiled here, has left audiences divided on the story's concluding statement about unhealthy partnerships. It has been said that those not in relationships have interpreted the film as a powerful case for remaining unattached. Meanwhile, certain partners having disagreements found that the film ultimately assisted them reconcile.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own interpretation could function as a great barometer of how you perceive partnership. Will the finale plant a sense of discomfort and fear, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you identify in Tim or Millie and yell at the screen, or simply look at your partner and state, “I’d do that for you”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an exploration you can embark on right now.

Together is available to watch on Hulu as of this moment.
