19 of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent the Russian player claimed his initial trophy for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has had a challenging season, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in especial - led to him dropping out of the top ten and eventually separating with former trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested competitive victory over challenger Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's first title following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court from spring of that year.

The win also signifies he has won twenty-one titles at 21 distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my children at once, so to secure a trophy is really nice," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his previous six finals, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's retrieving strategy and regular reactions on the tennis court had caused commentators to wonder if his skill to compete at the highest level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform positively, backed up by an improved service.

He fought back from a deficit in the first set against the challenging opponent, taking four of the last five games to go ahead.

Both players swapped breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

Moutet rescued 4 early-game break points in a close third set before the Russian won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, the winner secured the win with a rally at the net, with Moutet unable to manage a return after over two and a half hours.
